Although, the state of Maryland has legalized marijuanna for medical purposes only, the University of Maryland’s Student Government has taken it a step further.

 

Gas Tax

This photo shows how the gas tax has affected gas prices.

In an effort to supply funds to the public transit system throughout Maryland, the Maryland Senate approved an additional gas tax that will be implemented starting in July. The tax will include a four cents charge for every gallon of gas purchased. Democratic governor Martin O’Malley is being heavily criticized by state Republicans, as they believe this tax will only add to the deficient rather than solve transit issues.

This is Rebel, the horse that was born on campus.

On March 21st Rebel the colt became the first horse born at Maryland in 30 years. For the coordinator of the Equine studies program Dr. Amy Burk is rewarded for 12 years of hard work.

 ERC has opened its doors for any students who need help with stress need relaxation. 

Many students find finals time to be extremely stressful, but have found different ways of coping with this stress. Many students turn to exercise to ease their mind of the everyday tensions of dealing with school work.

Florida Gulf Coast, this year’s Cinderella story in the NCAA basketball tournament, celebrates an improbable win.

Every year, upsets in the NCAA tournament results in torn brackets. The same thing happened this year when unexpecting team made it much further than people ever expected.

Zeke Chow is the personal chef for the 47 girls who live in the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority house. He prepares lunch and dinner for the girls Monday through Friday. Students who live in one of the 15 sorority houses on the UMD campus don’t have to worry about dining plans since their cafeterias are right downstairs.

 

Passover Diets

Above is what a passover diet meal may look like.

Passover is an eight day Jewish holiday where they celebrate the freedom of the Jewish people from Egyptian rule and oppresion. They are not allowed to eat leavened bread, which is a problem for some University of Maryland students, who find it hard to eat around campus. Some students easily keep the Passover diet, while some have given up keeping it while they are at school.

Steve Spielberg along with Universal Pictures revamped the 1993 blockbuster, Jurassic Park. The new film has 20 minutes of new footage, as well as added graphics and 3D scenes. However, response to the movie is mixed.
